Agony of the Tree

by Akhand Jyoti Magazine

An old, tall and strong tree was cut near its roots and was lying on the ground. Seeing its pitiable condition, a passer-by asked-“Oh dear tree! You were very strong and till yesterday you were standing with full honour. What happened that today you are lying in this condition?”
In a painful voice tree replied-“A piece of wood from my family had joined the ax and became its handle. With his help, ax cut my roots. Had my own wood not joined my opponent, even the iron ax could not have harmed me.”
A person may tolerate the ill treatment of others, but even the smallest pain given by his near and dear becomes unbearable. He feels shattered.
