Duryodhan and Arjun both went to Bhagwan Krishna. They wanted him to join their side in the war of Mahabharat. Duryodhan reached first. Krishna was sleeping at that time. Arrogant Duryodhan sat near his head. Next, came Arjun and with reverence, sat near his feet.
When Krishna woke up, he saw Arjun first and asked the reason of his coming. Just then, Duryodhan said “I came before him so please listen to me first.” Krishna said—“Arjun is younger. Hence, he will get preference but your desire will also be fulfilled. I will be on one side, while my whole army will be on the other side. Arjun ! Tell me what you want?”
There was freedom to choose. It was up to one’s discretion as to ask for God or his grandeur. Arjun very submissively said—“Bhagwan ! I want you. You may not take part in the war but just remain with me.” Duryodhan smiled on the foolishness of Arjun and was very happy to get the huge army. Arjun had the support of God and he finally won.
Duryodhan, who always indulged in crooked, sinful and illegal acts was killed, along with all his friends and relatives. Every person has freedom to choose God’s grace like Arjun or the path of illegality and immorality like Duryodhan. One is called discretion and prudence, while the other is called selfish and thoughtless foolhardiness.
