At times, people who are considered virtuous are found to be doing amazing misdeeds. The evil tendencies are deeply rooted in them and emerge at the slightest opportunity. For example, a person who keeps thinking of stealing cannot sit quietly when a chance to steal presents itself. A person in the garb of a sanyasi cannot be respected as a realized soul if his thoughts are not in accordance to his external form. Such people commit sins as soon as circumstances permit.
Therefore, the efforts should be focused on eradicating the bad thoughts hidden in the depths of the mind. This requires continuous supervision of our Guna (Characteristics), karma (actions) and Swabhava (nature) so that any undesirable aspects are immediately corrected by filling our mind with noble thoughts. When we outnumber the bad thoughts by noble thoughts, we can successfully uproot them.
